Clerical shirts made from recycled plastic and organic Fairtrade cotton

Combining recycled plastic bottles and organic Fairtrade cotton to make Eco Clergy Wear.

More than 8 million tons of plastic are dumped in our oceans every year. Millions of whales, turtles, fish and other species are affected by plastic marine debris. According to the World Wildlife Fund, one plastic bottle takes approximately 450 years to break down with almost 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute.

To reduce the waste that eventually ends up in landfill and our oceans the Eco Clergy range is made of 100% recycled polyester fabric from PET bottles waste and Fairtrade organic cotton.

Buying clothes made with Fairtrade cotton means we can help low paid cotton farmers around the world. The environmental and social footprint of Fairtrade cotton is five times lower than conventional cotton farming including a reduction of the use of the harmful pesticides, better disposal of chemical containers, and the introduction and strengthening of sustainable farming methods. Eco Clergy recycling process

From plastic to
clergy wear

The bottles are sourced using various socially compliant sources such as: identified collection agencies, reverse vending machines and collection drives at events.

The bottles are cleaned, washed and cut down. They are then crushed to create plastic flakes. The flakes are then melted down and extruded to make fibre which is then used in the Eco Clergy Collection where applicable.

What’s the difference between cotton and organic cotton

Organic cotton is a more positive and sustainable alternative. It is made from non-genetically modified plants that are grown without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilisers or pesticides. This makes it better for the environment, the climate and the health of the people involved.
